Frequently Asked Questions

Traditional Chinese Medicine herbs, acupuncture needles
  • Acupuncture is a therapeutic technique derived from Chinese medicine. It involves the insertion of thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body to stimulate energy flow and rebalance the body's systems. This ancient practice has been used for centuries to alleviate pain, promote relaxation, and improve overall health

  • According to Chinese medicine theory, acupuncture works by balancing the flow of energy, known as Qi (pronounced "chee"), throughout the body. When the Qi is balanced, the body can heal itself and function optimally. Acupuncture stimulates specific points along meridians, or energy pathways, to clear blockages, increase circulation, and enhance the overall flow of energy.

  • Cupping involves the application of glass cups to the skin, creating a vacuum effect that gently draws the skin and superficial muscle layer upwards. This process stimulates blood flow, promotes the release of toxins, and helps to restore the body's natural energy flow or Qi. The cups are usually left in place for a few minutes or moved along specific meridians or acupuncture points to address specific issues.

One of the primary purposes of cupping is to relieve pain and muscle tension. It is commonly used to treat ailments such as back pain, neck and shoulder tension, and sports injuries. Additionally, cupping has shown promise in helping to alleviate respiratory conditions, such as asthma and bronchitis, by improving lung function and reducing congestion.

Furthermore, cupping is known to provide relief from stress and promote relaxation. Many patients report a soothing sensation during the treatment and a feeling of rejuvenation afterward. This therapy can also aid in the reduction of cellulite and the improvement of skin health through increased blood circulation and lymphatic drainage.

  • Moxibustion involves the burning of dried mugwort over specific acupuncture points or areas of the body. The dried herb, commonly referred to as moxa, can be shaped into cones or sticks and held indirectly above the skin or applied directly on top of the skin.

This therapy aims to warm and invigorate the body, boosting the circulation of Qi and blood. By stimulating the flow of energy, moxibustion promotes the body's ability to heal and regain balance. It is often used in combination with acupuncture or as a standalone treatment. Moxibustion has been found to be particularly effective for conditions aggravated by cold, where the pain naturally feels better with the application of heat.
